Woods' Challenges

Many states are facing budget crises and nearly every governmental agency is confronting the prospect of having less money for health care and human services. These changes already are having an impact on Woods. Declining revenues from these sources make it evermore challenging to support the services for those in its care.

In fact, 83% of the people Woods serves are funded by a variety of public sources, including school districts and child welfare agencies. In some cases, client care is funded by Medicaid and various insurance programs.

The increasing cost of providing health care, as well as the growing demand for space, residential improvements, and equipment have collided with the reduction in fees paid for services and uncompensated care provided to Woods' clients.

Woods' Commitment to Quality Care

When necessary, fees are increased to keep up with rising costs, but increased demands and declining revenue streams remain one of Woods' primary challenges. An elevated level of philanthropy is needed to cover the gap between fee-for-service revenue and services Woods cannot be reimbursed for, such as recreational activities, capital improvements, and strategic initiatives. Despite this challenge, Woods retains its commitment to provide quality care and services to people with exceptional needs.
