Woods Breaks Ground on New Building

Langhorne, PA Woods Services, a non-profit organization serving more than 1,400 children and adults with developmental, emotional or brain-injury related disabilities, broke ground on a new Medical, Dental, and Employee Training facility on Tuesday, May 1, 2007.

Participating in the groundbreaking were Dr. Robert G. Griffith, President and CEO of Woods Services, Philip Gruber, Chairman of Woods Board of Trustees, Mitchell Pozez, National Campaign Chair, Bill Pozez, Woods client, Naomi Richardson, Woods client, Pennsylvania State Representative Chris King, and Les Bucher, KCBA Architects and Gary Schaeffer of Branch Valley Associates, General Contractor. The new building, one of the largest on Woods campus, will include almost 25,000 square feet that will provide increased treatment space for clients, greater privacy for medical and dental visits, state-of-the-art training techniques and equipment, and additional space to train Woods large employee population.

The cost estimate for the building is $7.5 million, of which $2.5 million will be supported through donations from family, friends, corporations and foundations. The remaining expenses will be covered via tax-exempt borrowing. The fundraising for the new center is part of a major capital and endowment campaign to be announced by Woods later this year.

In 1913 Mollie Woods founded The Woods Schools for children with developmental disabilities. Known as Woods Services today, the non-profit organization provides educational, residential, and vocational services children and adults with special needs. Woods Services is the third largest private employer in Bucks County with a staff of more than 1,700. Woods is located in Langhorne, Pa. with additional locations throughout Bucks, Montgomery, Chester, and Delaware Counties.
