Woods Receives Pledge of Support

February 26th, 2008

Nancy Lynn Squier, a loyal and generous donor for many years, recently announced her intention to make a leadership gift of $100,000 to The Campaign for Woods’ Second Century. Her gift will be used to help construct the new Medical, Dental and Employee Training Center.

A member of the Campaign Cabinet, she established the Squier Assistive Technology Center in 1995 with a gift that memorializes her sister, Dolores, who lived at Woods for more than 50 years. "Over the years, I have seen Woods grow and expand, enabling the many people it serves to enjoy a full and better life," said Ms. Squier.  “My sister was one of those people and I saw how happy she was as she grew to her fullest potential in her home away from home."

Many of the people served by Woods have communication disorders and behavioral and physical challenges. The Assistive Technology Center serves as a resource, evaluation and demonstration center for people who can benefit from specialized equipment that helps them move beyond some of the limitations imposed by their disabilities. Since its establishment, the Center has developed adaptive keyboards, specialized communication devices, provided access to environmental control systems, and improved the organization’s ability to repair and customize equipment.

"Nancy Squier's generosity has enabled Woods Services to be at the forefront of assistive technology these past twelve years," states Mitch Pozez, National Campaign Chairperson.  "Her leadership and support of The Campaign for Woods’ Second Century will have that same kind of transformative effect."
